    Full description of the concept

After taking The Borderland by storm in 2017 and 2018 (with some literal storms), the Hammock Reactor is coming to Kiez Burn, more advanced than ever!

The Hammock Reactor is a giant chillout space with room for up to 24 hammocks and a giant net. Participants can hang out under a shade and enjoy life or watch shows or talks on the central stage of the installation. The Hammock Reactor is also an experiment in applied Burner-physics to generate positive energy by fusing hippies into a hot party plasma. But how can we ignite the hot hippie fusion plasma? In 2018, we made the scientific experiment at Borderland: Could visual PARTYcle accelerators ignite the hippie fusion? The answer? Yes! But the hippie plasma was stable only for brief moments. So our Research & Pseudo-Science Department has determined that for 2019 we need an upgrade to the reactor core: the Cyclops Injection Light System (CILS).

We will use a powerful photon beamer mounted at the roof of the reactor core to aim an intense light field onto a segmented mirror assembly placed at the center of the reactor. The reflected beams will illuminate the segments of the reactor roof with pleasing visuals. This will mesmerize and catch the hippie particles chilling in the hammocks underneath for sufficiently long to excite them beyond the critical point and ignite an orgasmic hot hippie fusion of sound and visions and bodies!

To make the dream happen, we need to construct a segmented frame more than 1 m in diameter, carefully measured and angled according to a calculated projection geometry. The frame will be covered with custom-cut mirror segments to ensure that each segment of the reactor roof is optimally illuminated. In addition, we need to purchase a robust projector mount to install the beamer with weatherproofing. Estimated total of these minimal costs is 300€. The Austrian Burners ( will loan us the projector (brand-new 5000 lumen Epson EB-2255U Full HD beamer) as well as active four-point speaker system for surround audio sweetness – for free! Guest VJs will also be welcome.

To make this happen, we also need to transport the several tons of Hammock Reactor from Vienna to Kiez Burn to actually install the CILS, which involves significant fuel costs. We need to repair the tarps forming the roof, which will be the projection surfaces. The tape holding them together is falling off and we need to buy 100 meters of badass outdoor tape to fix this. These costs are an extra 350€ beyond the minimum, and we request that they also be covered from the Dream grant as the Reactor will be open to the entire Kiez Burn community.

    About the group/Artist

Hammock Reactor is a project of Salon Leobard, an art salon / theme camp based in Vienna, Austria. The CILS enchament project is dreamed by VJ Toma Susi ( who has a decade of experience with science-inspired visuals.

How do you plan to Strike the Project?

We will have camp recycling and are prepared to take everything we bring with us when we leave.

    Aerial Footprint of your installation

    15 m diameter + extra space around, 4 m high.

How can other burners co-create with you?

Guest VJs for the projections are more than welcome, please contact Toma Susi. If you want to perform on our stage, please connect with our Stage team at

    What is this?

Congratulations! You've stumbled upon something special. Kiez Burn is a platform that allows you to share your dreams.

    • Do you need electricity from the grid? How much in Watts? * Yes – approximately maximum 1 kW of maximum power, in total 7 kWh per day.

    • Will there be light? The CILS itself is a 400 W beamer, and in addition we have LED lighting to illuminate the Reactor and its ground support anchors as well as our camp.

    • Will anything burn? * Only hearts with love in the hot hippie plasma.

    • What is your audio footprint? * Total power of the four-point sound system is less than 1 kW, and we be running it a half-power at most.

    • What’s your ecological footprint? Apart from the electricity production and transport, we are emission-free and fully committed to leaving not a single bloody trace.
